Manage domain

Step 1: Check with our Domain Check if the domain you want is still available.

Step 2: Either log in to the chilly.domains customer area or register as a new customer.

Step 3: To complete the order, a sufficient balance on your customer account is required. If you have enough credits, you can proceed to step 4. Otherwise, there are several payment options available to you.

Step 4: In the last step you will receive a short summary of your order. If all the information is correct, you can complete your order. Your new domain will be registered for you within a few minutes and will be available to you.

You have two options to cancel your services:

  1. Online in your customer area: To do so, go to ‘Services‘ and select the service you wish to cancel. Then click on the “cancel” button. Please note the cancellation period, which you can find on the detail page of the corresponding service.

  2. In writing with our cancellation form. Fill in the form and send it signed by the domain owner either by e-mail to support@chilly.domains or by fax to the number +43 (0) 6215 / 20889

A domain renewal reminder will be sent 90, 60 and 30 days prior to expiration.
If no payment for the domain extension is made in due time, the domain will expire. Expired domains will be deactivated and deleted after a safety period of 30 days.

You can change the owner data of a domain via the customer area. After logging in, you will find an overview of your domains under “Services”. Select the domain in question and click the “Edit domain data” option.

Please note that depending on the domain ending, owner changes often have to be confirmed either by online confirmation (by sending an email to the new and old owner) or by an appropriate form.

If you have an active storage package, the Control Panel module “Forwarding” is available. If you do not have a storage package, log in to your customer area.

In the customer area, you will find the option “Order”. Click on “order only forwarding” and follow the instructions in the ordering process.

For the redirects you can choose between different options: “Frame” (the address line remains unchanged), “URL” (the address line changes ), “Email” and combinations thereof.

Domain Transfer

In the customer area you have the possibility to initiate the transfer of your domain to chilly.domains as domain owner.

Once you have initiated the transfer, you will receive a message with the required steps to the domain owner‘s email address. Please note that the transfer of a domain may vary depending on the ending.

For more detailed information please visit our transfer page.

Navigate to the “Services” menu in your customer area and select your domain name. Then click the “Authorization Code” item in the sidebar to request the AuthInfo code for your domain.

Subdomains

The creation of a subdomain includes 2 points:

  • Create subdomain via DNS record in customer area
  • Link subdomain to the hosting package in the Control Panel (you will learn how to do that here).

First, log in to your customer center and navigate to the “Services” menu item. Hover the mouse over the item “DNS service 1 year for yourdomain.tld” and select “Edit zone records”.

Click on “Add entry”. Now enter the desired name in the “Subdomain” column.

Example: For the subdomain “store.yourdomain.tld” enter “store” here.

Now you have 2 variants to choose from – the end result is the same. Either you create an A record with the IP address from your hosting package or a so-called CNAME record with your domain name.

Variant 1: Select “A” as the entry type – then enter the IP address of your hosting package in the “Value” field. This can be found below under the item “IP address for the hosted product:”

Variant 2: Select “CNAME” as the entry type – then enter the name of your main domain in the “Value” field. Now complete the change by clicking on “Change entries”.

Note: At chilly.domains, the DNS records are changed within a few minutes and you can start working with them. However, it may take up to 24 hours for the subdomain to be correctly accessible worldwide. This is due to the fact that the entries must first be taken over by Internet providers worldwide.

There are two methods how you can upload content for a subdomain. The first one is recommended in the vast majority of cases – if you want an independent website or separate email accounts for the subdomain this is required. A multi-domain hosting package is required for this.

  1. Launch your Control Panel, go to the “Domains” module and click on “Add new domain” to add it to the hosting package. Enter the name of your subdomain and select whether to host emails and/or websites for the subdomain. Also set the directory where the website will be located later.
  2. By default, a subdomain points to the subdirectory of the same name as the main domain. Example: The subdomain “blog.yourdomain.tld” displays the content from the folder “www/blog”. You can create this either via FTP or the file manager if required. Now check the box “Wildcard subdomains and rewrite subdomains” in the Domains module of your main domain.

In the Domains module, the “Wildcard & Rewrite Subdomains” functions are available under “Action” and Website Settings.

  1. With “Wildcard Subdomains” all correctly configured subdomains of the main domain are automatically hosted. By default, subdomains point to the main domain directory (/www).

  2. With “Rewrite Subdomains” you can redirect the subdomains to the corresponding subdirectory of the main domain. For example, the subdomain “store.domain.tld” displays the content from the folder “/www/shop”. It is important that the respective folder exists.

Without “Rewrite Subdomains”, the contents of the main domain are delivered for the subdomains. In this case, however, it is possible to make an individual configuration via the .htaccess file.

DNS settings

Log in to the customer area in the upper right corner. There you go in the menu to “Services” and then to “Nameserver Services”. Here you can adjust the nameserver entries and add new entries.

You can edit the name servers for your domain in your Customer Center.

First, log in to your customer center and navigate to the “Services” menu item. Hover your mouse over “DNS service 1 year for yourdomain.tld” and then click “Edit zone records”.

With the Domains control panel module, if you use a hosting package from chilly.domains, you can check your DNS entries for correctness.

To do this, click on “Action” and “DNS check” for the desired domain.

  • If the entries are correct, the tool reports “Email/website successful”.
  • If the DNS entries are incorrect, the corresponding fields are highlighted in red and the parameters to be set are displayed.

Provided that your hosting package is multi-domain capable, you can add more domains to your storage package. This requires two basic steps:

Step 1: Control Panel – Domains module

  1. In the Control Panel, switch to the Domains module.
  2. Click on “Add new domain
  3. Select which services you want to use
  4. For “Website” you will then be asked for the root directory of the domain. Either create a new one, or select an existing one.
  5. Click Add
  6. For step 2 you will need the IP address of your hosting package. To do this, go to “Action” and “DNS Check” for your main domain. At the bottom you will find the server IP address – make a note of it.

Your domain is now assigned to the storage package. Now link the two together in your customer center.

Step 2: Customer Center – Adjust DNS settings

  1. Log in to your customer area
  2. Switch to the “Services” menu item and select “DNS service 1 year for yourdomain.tld” and “Edit zone entries” here
  3. Now enter the IP address of your hosting package.

An SPF (Sender Policy Framework) entry specifies which mail server is authorized to send mail. This prevents the falsification of sender addresses (spoofing). The entry helps to improve the deliverability of your own emails.

Set this SPF entry if you want to allow sending via the chilly.domains mail servers:

@ IN TXT "v=spf1 mx a include:spf.ledl.net ~all"
