Homepage Designer Comments module

How to add the comments module to your hompage

The comment function is provided by Disqus, a third party service that collects and processes all comments. Before your visitors can leave comments, you must register an account with Disqus and then specify a site ID in the settings of the comment module. You can add multiple comment modules into a single website. Since all comment modules on the website use the same site ID, you only need to specify the site ID in the module settings once.

How to add comment functionality to a website:
  1. Go to the Modules tab, select comment and drag the module to the page.
  2. If you have not yet registered an account with Disqus, click on the Register button. A new browser window or tab with a registration form will open.
  3. Specify the following:
    • The URL of your website, the desired name and the short name (unique ID). You must specify this website ID (short name) later in the settings of the blog module to enable the comment function.
    • Username, password and email address of the comment moderator. Make sure that the specified email address is valid because a confirmation message will be sent to this address.
  4. Click Continue.
  5. Enter your language and other preferences, and then click Continue.
  6. In the last step of the registration form, no further actions are required. Simply log off the Disqus site.
  7. Check if the acknowledgement message has been sent to your inbox by Disqus. Click on the link in the message to confirm your address.
  8. Go back to the browser window where you opened the Chilly Homepage Designer with the properties of the blog module.
  9. Enter your site ID (short name) that you received when you registered and the site ID that you specified during the registration with Disqus in step 7.
  10. Click Apply.
  11. Click OK.

You can now publish your site, and your visitors can now leave comments. In addition to adding and viewing comments, you can perform the following actions:

  • Edit comments, delete comments, mark comments as spam, lock users (via their e-mail or IP address) so that they cannot post any comments on your site. Change settings, such as altering the appearance of comments or removing the trackback URL. To do this, log into your account at www.disqus.com and go to the Settings tab.

How to moderate comments:

  1. Log in as the site administrator to Disqus. To do this, use one of the following methods:
    • Go to the Disqus website at www.disqus.com and log in.
    • In the Chilly Homepage Designer go to the site that contains the comment module and click Add new comment.
    • Click the Publish as button, in the left navigation pane click on the link Disqus, enter your user name / password and click Login.
  2. Once you are logged in to Disqus, you can moderate comments in one of the two following ways:
    • On the Disqus site use the items in the areas Dashboard and Admin.
    • In the Chilly Homepage Designer or on the published site go to the page that contains the comment module, hold the mouse over the comment you wish to moderate, and click on the link moderation displayed next to the comment.

Alternatively, you can moderate comments via the links in notifications which Disqus will send to you when a visitor leaves a comment on your page.

How to remove the comment function from a website:

  1. In the Chilly Homepage Designer go to the site that contains the comment module.
  2. Hold the mouse pointer over the Add New Comment box and click Remove.
  3. Click Yes to confirm the operation.
